Interserve gains National Equality Standard

Interserve has been awarded the National Equality Standard (NES) for equality, diversity and inclusion in the UK.

Developed by Ernst & Young (EY) alongside, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the NES is based on a robust assessment of an organisation against defined criteria across seven standards, comprised of 49 competencies and is tested through documentary analysis, staff interviews and site visits.

Interserve has become the first company operating in the support services and construction sectors to have been awarded the accreditation and with a workforce of over 80,000 people, is also the largest employer to achieve the standard to date.

Interserve was praised for its visible leadership support for the agenda at executive board and divisional board level, for having comprehensive people policies across the business and delivering diversity and inclusion programmes across the group. The company was also commended for demonstrating strong employee engagement through diversity network groups and its annual employee survey.

Adrian Ringrose, Interserve’s Chief Executive, said:

“The NES is a highly respected accreditation so I’m delighted to see so much of our work to become a truly inclusive business has been endorsed. The target of achieving a diversity and equality standard across the group by 2018 was a key aim within our SustainAbilities plan so to achieve it early is extremely satisfying.

“The next challenge for us is to ensure our diversity and inclusion agenda continues to move forward.”
